It is reported that shipment of egg yoke and ship- ment of albumen by Siemssens Shanghai shipped per "Glenstrae" to Glasgow under lien to the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation was seized and sold in London in spite of Hongkong and Shanghai Bank's claims. Interests involved in this case of little importance but question at issue of great importance on account of valuable cargoes on board German ships now lying at ports of neutral powers on the homeward journey. British banks insurance companies fear capture of such cargo if it is transhipped forwarded to England. On the other hand cargo if not forwarded will result in loss in whole or in part. It is not known whether the rule regarding non recognition of liens applies to goods as well as ships but if it does can Crown consider releasing such goods after condemnation. The question under consideration will affect only goods shipped to nonenemy ports. It is assumed that branches in Chinese Territories of German firme bear non-enemy character in spite of extra-territoriality. Important British interests involv-
